Binman SACKED after swapping waste bags so he didn't have to collect them
A binman has been sacked after being caught on camera swapping rubbish between two bins in West Bromwich to avoid having to collect it.
The worker was filmed on CCTV moving rubbish between a black bin and a recycling bin.
But the unsuspecting binman was caught red-handed as homeowner Brij Dhande had put up a camera due to concerns over his bin collections.
The footage clearly showed a man wearing a woolly hat and high-vis trousers can be brazenly lifting the bin lid and moving rubbish outside the house on All Saints Way before walking off.
Serco, which manages waste collection services on behalf of Sandwell Council, said the man's actions were unacceptable and apologised.
General contract manager John Mason: "We expect our teams to uphold the highest standards and we are clear that the behaviour in this video is completely unacceptable. I would like to apologise and to reassure residents that we are taking this incident extremely seriously.
"I can confirm that the employee concerned no longer works for the company, and I will also be speaking to all our teams to remind them of their responsibilities."
IT worker Mr Dhande, aged 55, said: "I was shocked. All along under the impression it was children messing about but it is a grown man, who looks like an employee - he has got the high-vis on, the trousers and gloves on.
"This is what people pay their taxes for - for them to do their job. We are always being told we have got to recycle stuff and separate it all and then the people who are supposed to be enforcing it are violating the whole agreement."
