Tributes paid after 'dearest uncle' killed in West Bromwich lorry crash

Tributes have been paid to a 'dearest uncle' killed when his car crashed with a lorry in West Bromwich.

Flowers have been left at the site of the crash next to Central RPL on Kelvin Way, where the 63-year-old man died on Friday.

One read: "RIP dearest uncle. You have left a huge hole in our lives.

"You will be missed so so much. Hope you are at peace with your two sons and parents. Taken too soon."

Emergency services were called to Kelvin Way, which connects Bromford Lane and Trinity Way, at around 6.35pm after reports of a crash between a car and lorry.

The man was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

A resident, who lives on Kelvin Way but asked not to be named, said: "We heard lots of sirens and could hear people screaming and shouting.

"I heard that a lorry and car collided and a man in his 60s has passed away which is very sad news."

Meanwhile tributes were also left on Facebook, where family members thanked the passers-by who tried to help and comfort their 'beloved uncle'.

"RIP to a truly amazing man," Mandeep Pahal wrote on the social networking site.

"You were such a loving caring person, you've been taken too soon. We will treasure the memories you've left us with forever."

Raj Pahal Bassi added: "RIP to our beloved uncle, you were an amazing man with a heart full of gold, always concerned about people making that extra special effort to see how all your family are, you will remain, in our hearts, thought and prayers forever, the memories we have of you will be cherished forever an amazing man that will never be forgotten rest in peace."

The road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident and did not reopen until around 4am on Saturday. The lorry driver was spoken to by police but no arrests were made.

Pc Chris Ridge, from West Midlands Police's Collision Investigation Unit, said: "We continue to investigate the circumstances that lead to the collision and I am appealing to anyone who was in the area and who has not already spoken to us to come forward."

Elsewhere in the Black Country, two people were in a serious condition in hospital yesterday after a crash between a motorbike and a car in Wednesfield.

Linthouse Lane was closed for several hours after the 'very serious' collision at around 7.30pm on Saturday.
