Injured Staffie on road to recovery after being thrown out of 40mph car

A dog that was thrown out of a car travelling at 40mph is on the mend and ready to be rehomed.

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier was rescued by the RSPCA after witnesses reported the incident at around 2am on New Year's Day, on High Road, in Willenhall.

The female Staffie suffered a cut to her leg, which inspectors initially thought was broken, and a gash on her ear.

The charity has since handed her over to Sunnyside Kennels in Coven, near Wolverhampton, where staff have temporarily named her Ruby.

Assistant manager Tina Leedham said: "There were no signs of shock initially but there were concerns she had fractured her leg until she had an x-ray. The RSPCA did a good job taking care of her.

"When she came into us our vets had a look at her. The wound on the left leg was gaping and swollen. We were just treating her with antibiotics, pain relief and anti-inflammatories.

"The vet saw her on January 16 and said she can be made available for rehoming, although the wound on her leg will still have to be treated for a little while."

It is thought Ruby is at least six years old and because she is a little boisterous, having had no apparent training not to jump up at people, the vets have recommended she does not go to a home with children.

Ms Leedham is confident that it will not be long before someone falls for her charms and takes her home with them.

"She has a story, which always tends to pull at the heartstrings," she said. "She is a boisterous girl for an older Staffy so we wouldn't look to rehome her with children. But I am sure we will rehome her."

Inspector Rob Crutchley said: "The dog had an injury to her leg as a result of the incident, which was immediately treated.

"It was very shocking for the two people who found her. The dog was terrified after her ordeal.

"She is not microchipped so we have no way of tracing where she came from. We'd also like to rule out whether she was stolen.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who has any information to get in touch with us in complete confidence on 0300 123 8018."

Sunnyside, on Dark Lane, currently has 43 dogs in its care.

Anyone who wishes to inquire about rehoming Ruby, or any of the other dogs at the kennels, can contact them on 01902 790618.
