Charred sofas, discarded bedding and burnt-out chairs.

Those are just a few of the items among a fire-ravaged rubbish pile which has been left to blight residents in a Walsall road for weeks.

On Friday, August 12, it is believed someone set fire to a garage on a grass verge at Derby Street.

The blaze destroyed the garage itself and now a large pile of burnt-out furniture has been left in its stead.

Despite the fact the fire was three weeks ago no-one has taken responsibility for removing the rubbish.

Julie Robbins, aged 59, who lives opposite the eyesore, said: "There was a big fire here and the fire brigade came out.

"Three weeks down the line and nothing has been done about it.

"No-one seems to know who the garage belongs to. It is an absolute nightmare now.

"People have to live and look at it every day. Before the fire it wasn't a problem but now people are just walking passed and chucking stuff on it."

West Midlands Fire Service confirmed it was called out around 7.27pm and 10 firefighters were dispatched to tackle the blaze.

A spokesman said: "We got a call at 7.27pm on August 12. We sent two crews from Walsall, there were ten firefighters.

"The incident involved and brick and concrete garage on grass land. The fire involved furniture within the garage. It is believed to have been started deliberately.

"Two firefighters in breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to tackle the blaze."

The Express & Star contacted Walsall Council to see if they could shed any light on who was responsible for clearing the mess but it was unable to comment.
