Isabell Salat, from Walsall, turned five on Thursday and received best wishes from all around the world.

Her mother Kimberley Tipper launched the campaign to give Isabell, who has coronary heart disease, and declared it was a great day, boosted by appearances from characters dressed in costume as Anna, Elsa and Olaf from the Disney film Frozen.

Presents from generous supporters included a total of £600 in cash, a castle set from Frozen, silver jewellery, teddy bears, watches and chocolates.

Isabel's mother said: "They were from all over the world, I cannot tell you. She was receiving them from Australia, Brazil and places like that. We are hoping to put them all up with string around the room.

"Before this I used to look at people quite badly because of what happened in the past but it made me realise there are really nice people out there.

"It has been a bit overwhelming. People are so generous."

When Isabell was born, she weighed just five pounds and three ounces and was blue. Only six weeks later it was found she was suffering from a serious heart condition.

She needs a pulmonary artery transplant, but her parents are unsure when that will need to be undertaken.

Isabell's family, along with her brothers Dylan, nine, and Oliver, six, and her sister, Scarlett, three, helped her open her cards and presents after they awoke at 5.30am. And after Isabell and her older siblings had finished school, the family celebrated with a special tea party.

Isabell's grandmother, who would have post delivered to her home in Castle Vale daily, got to know the postman because of the sheer volume of her frequent letters.

Kimberley said: "We had to make sure we were in to sign for it. The postman got to know her from knocking the door. The postman thought my mom had had a baby – and my mom's nearly 50."
