Learner biker caught riding wrong way down M6 Toll

A learner motorcyclist got lost on the M6 Toll and then drove the wrong way along the hard shoulder before police caught up with him.

The rider was spotted travelling between T5 for Shenstone and T4 for Weeford this afternoon.

Luckily there were no near misses and the rider was uninjured.

The Central Motorway Police Group stopped the biker who now faces a court date before magistrates.

Officers seized the bike but not before taking a picture of it parked facing in the wrong direction while its L plate was clearly displayed above the main headlight.

They posted the photograph to the CMPG Twitter feed with the message "M6 Toll, T5 Southbound. There are two things wrong with this picture... Can you name them both?"

Social media users soon responded pointing out it was because the rider was a learner let alone the fact he was travelling in the wrong direction.

Others branded the culprit an 'idiot' and 'unbelievably stupid'.

Unfortunately it is not the first time a motorist has drove the wrong way on the toll.

In March Czech Republic driver Frantisek Formanek was caught on CCTV reversing ten times along the pay to use motorway.

The 56-year-old Eddie Stobart driver, who was over the drink drive limit at the time, was jailed for six months and handed a driving ban.

Remarkably the incident did not result in any collisions or injuries.
