'This cannot continue': Call for meeting to discuss traveller camps
A Walsall councillor is calling for a summit meeting with senior police and council teams to tackle the ongoing traveller crisis in the borough.
It comes as more than 20 caravans set up camp on George Rose Park in Darlaston on Thursday.
Walsall Council issued a notice for the travellers to vacate the land within seven days.
Councillor Doug James, who represents the Darlaston South ward, said that a urgent action needed to be taken.
He explained: "This cannot continue no longer.
"We are expecting the travellers to be gone by today or tomorrow but then we will have to deal with the upheaval that they leave behind.
"I now want to have a summit meeting with David Jamieson and senior police and enforcement and licensing teams as these problems will just continue all summer if not.
"There needs to be a rethink on how authorities deal with this."
It is the second time in four months that travellers parked up on the Darlaston beauty spot.
