Police closed a section of the busy A4123 Birmingham New Road near Silver Jubilee Park after a collision involving a car and a motorbike shortly before 5.30am.

The biker was taken to hospital with leg injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

Debris was left scattered across the road, with the severely damaged bike resting on the grass verge surrounded by broken glass and bodywork. An 'L' plate was visible within the wreckage.

Police tape surrounded the scene where the green Jeep's front bumper was hanging off the driver's side.

More than five hours after the crash the key route remained closed between Vicarage Road West and the A457 Sedgley Road for motorists travelling towards Dudley, while one lane was closed for drivers heading towards Wolverhampton.

Drivers faced delays of up to an hour until the road finally reopened at around 11.30am.
