Private Mayfair jeweller Star Diamond revealed the news today, putting an end to the mystery of the Smethwick star's absent diamonds.

The 65-year-old actress had borrowed the dazzling jewellery specifically for last night's Baftas ceremony, only to realise on stage that she had lost one of the expensive pair.

Walters admitted the missing earring was 'probably worth more' than her home.

She said: "These earrings are borrowed and they are probably the same price as my house. And as I got up on stage I realised one of them was not there.

"Somebody's found a bit of it, but even that is probably worth more than my house, so I need to look around."

But today luxury appointment-only jeweller Star Diamond revealed the earring had been returned.

Walters was on stage to accept the Outstanding British Film award for her latest film Brooklyn, although she was beaten to best supporting actress by Kate Winslett.

The Revenant fared best at the Baftas, winning three of the biggest awards including best actor for Leonardo DiCaprio.
