A group of travellers have been served a court order to move on after they illegally parked on land in Walsall.

Walsall Council issued a complaint to remove the six caravans and cars from the site in Northfields Way, Clayhanger.

Peter Cole, spokesman for Walsall Council, said: "Officers have confirmed they have been granted a section 78, which is a removal notice.

"The unauthorised encampment consists of six caravans and associated vehicles."

The case was heard at Walsall Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The council revealed clearing up after travellers had cost cash-strapped authority more than £70,000 by August last year.

Bosses agreed to look at placing the large wheeled bins, known as euro bins, on illegal camp sites to encourage occupants not to dump mess.

Travellers also set up camp on a retail park next to Walsall's Banks's Stadium in November, forcing some supporters to park away from their usual places prior to an FA Cup game.
