£10 bet wins punter £245,000 at Wolverhampton Racecourse - after photo finish!
It's the stuff dreams are made of when it comes to betting – a £10 accumulator that raked in a staggering £245,000 thanks to a last-race photo-finish.
The lucky punter went 'through the card' at Wolverhampton's Dunstall Park, predicting all seven winners on a single day.
And he did it by sheer luck – choosing his winners purely on their names.
The 'acca' required all the selections to come first in their race and one by one they all came in – just.
Because to add to his tension, a photo finish was required in the very last race with his pick, Ohsosecret, winning by the smallest of margins.
The winner is an unnamed 34-year-old motor mechanic and he backed up his big return with a £10 each-way accumulator, allowing for his selections to finish in second place and still bag some winnings.
Remarkably all seven horses were first over the line in the meeting at Wolverhampton Racecourse.
The win makes the punter nearly a quarter of a million pounds better off.
And when asked how he pulled it off, the father-of-three revealed he had no great secret and picked the horses based on their names.
He said: "I chose the horses based on their names. I looked at ones who were favourites and selected them at random based upon names that I liked. I was watching the results come in and after the first three had won, I started texting the wife.
"When the seventh one won, I was jumping around the place. It's the biggest high I have ever had."
The seven winners, who raced at the meeting on January 6, were Whitecliff, Artful Mind, Mr Boss Man, Oakley Girl, Perfect Cracker, Bank Of Gibraltar and Ohsosecret.
The punter, from Southampton, boosted his winnings by taking early prices the night before the racing, which ranged from 5-4 to 5-1.
Had he placed his bets as each horse lined up, his return would have been around £80,000 with much shorter odds and one of the winners priced at Evens.
