Eight lucky people in Mount Street won £25,000 each when their postcode WS12 4BY was drawn on Saturday.

The residents had their cheques delivered by People's Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt.

One of the winners was dog lover Lynne Hodgkins. The 54-year-old was ecstatic when she won and said: "I just cannot believe I have won. Things like this don't happen to people like me.

"I have been playing People's Postcode Lottery for over a year now, primarily because I know the money goes to good causes and charities but now I am a winner too and I just can't believe it."

Retired charity fundraiser and keen gardener Michael Wallace, aged 73, added: "I have been a player for less than eight weeks so to find out I have won £25,000 so soon is fantastic. I have a large family of 22 who are all delighted for me".

As a charity lottery, players in the People's Postcode Lottery have raised more than £99.6 million for good causes across Great Britain and internationally.

Charities in the region that have benefitted from funding include Burntwood Phoenix, Girlguiding – Beaudesert District, Manor Farm Community Association and the Walsall Street Teams.

A third winner was self-employed and ex-First Battalion Queen's Company Steve Evans, aged 60.

He won £10 in a Postcode Lottery draw three months ago and said: "It has always been the charity element that has drawn me to play People's Postcode Lottery. This has to be the most exciting thing to happen to our street in a long time – everyone is over the moon."

Other winners included Andrew Matthews, Martina Hession, June Glover, Lesely Parkin and an eighth person who did not wish to be named.

The People's Postocde Lottery, along with sister lotteries in Sweden and Holland, is the world's largest fundraising private charity donor and ranks third in the World's top 20 Private Charity Donors following the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Wellcome Trust respectively.
