Driver seriously injured in West Bromwich smash

Two men have been injured, one seriously, in a smash in West Bromwich.

A man in his 20s suffered serious injuries in the crash on the A4041 Newton Road near to Sandwell Valley Crematorium, at around 3.00am this morning.

Two ambulances attended the scene, one of which had come across the incident. They were joined by a paramedic area support officer, a MERIT trauma doctor and an advanced paramedic.

Claire Brown, a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "Upon arrival crews found two cars which had been involved in a serious collision.

"The driver of one car, a man in his 20s, was unconscious and had suffered serious injuries. The medic worked closely with the team of ambulance staff on scene to stabilise his condition before he was transferred by ambulance on blue lights to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for further trauma care.

"The driver of the second car, a man believed to be in his 40s, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Sandwell Hospital for further checks."
