WATCH: 'It's the stuff of dreams': Trucker who's won the lottery twice only scooped £1m because of mix-up
A lucky lorry driver told today how he scooped £1m on the lottery only after the shop that sold him the winning ticket got the dates mixed up.
Stuart Powell, from Featherstone, won the EuroMillions UK Millionaire Marker prize on November 24, nearly four years to the day after a Lotto win of £55,000.
Today he and wife Dairy Crest worker wife Denise, 44, celebrated in front of the media at Acton Trussell.
But the already lucky lorry driver, 50, wouldn't have bagged the UK Millionaire Maker win, if it wasn't for the shop keeper giving him a ticket for the wrong date.
He said: "I buy a ticket every week but missed the draw on November 20, which was the big rollover draw.
"The previous week I thought I had bought a lucky dip for November 20 but the lady in the shop got her dates mixed up and I'm so glad she did."
"I was working nights and always call Denise before she goes to bed.
"After checking the code what seemed like a million times, Denise said we were winners.. again."
The couple called their three sons with the news. Matthew, 26, who works with his father at Spray Tank Services, didn't believe his father.
Brother Nathan, 20, was at university and didn't answer his phone, while Adam, 25, said he didn't believe them and went back to bed.
Mr Powell said: "The next morning I called the National Lottery to stake the claim, and Adam called me up to say he thought he'd had a weired dream about me phoning hom to say he was a lottery winner.
"I won £55,464 on November 30, 2011, on my birthday, and gave it away to my children and wife and I intend to do exactly the same with this million.
"I'm going to buy the kids a house each, my elderly father a car, Denise wants a Range Rover Evoque and me, well I'm not bothered as long as they are happy."
To think I have won twice, it's just unbelievable, the stuff of dreams
Despite now being millionaires the down to earth couple, who have been married 22 years, said the win won't change their lifestyle.
Stuart said: "You can't sum up the feeling but I won't stop working. I enjoy my job and I've got shifts next week, but the money is super."
He added: "The money will help my family and to know my three children will be mortgage free is wonderful. I played so if I won I could help that I love and that's what we will do."
Asked if he would splash any of the cash on himself, he smiled and said "I'm getting a new nail gun."
