Injured kitten thought to have been thrown from vehicle on M54
A kitten was found injured and cowering by the side of the M54 motorway after he was believed to have been thrown from a moving vehicle.
The male grey tabby - who has been named Highway - was found hiding beneath a barrier at Junction 4 near Shifnal with his front leg caught through a pink collar, and injuries to his mouth and feet which required immediate veterinary treatment.
Although microchipped, there has been no success in tracing the owners of the five-month-old.
Since Highway's ordeal on Saturday, September 26, he has been recovering at the RSPCA's Gonsal Farm Animal Centre, in Dorrington, Shropshire.
A vet confirmed that his injuries suggested he may have jumped or been thrown from a moving vehicle on the motorway.
Rebecca Emeny, manager of Gonsal Farm, said: "We want to say a huge thank-you to the Highways Agency staff for their prompt action in bringing Highway to the centre.
"Also, we'd like to thank the lady who was patiently waiting in Copthorne Vets for her allocated appointment but who kindly gave her slot to Highway so he could have his injuries assessed and treated.
"We don't know how long Highway was at the side of the motorway for but it would have been a terrifying ordeal for him. A motorway is no place for a cat to be and he is lucky to have survived.
"Highway is now recovering from what happened to him and is being cared for by staff at Gonsal Farm, who have all fallen in love with him."
Anyone with information on Highway should call the RSPCA's appeals line in confidence on 0300 123 8018.
