Sandwell Council has already thrown out one scheme put forward by New River Retail for the Haden Cross site on Halesowen Road.

But the firm has submitted fresh proposals, saying it has addressed issues previously raised by councillors.

The Friends of Haden Cross group has collected more than 250 signatures in two weeks for a petition which will be submitted to the council after Sunday.

The group will hold a public meeting on October 13 at the Haden Cross from 7.30pm.

It is expected that the planning application will be decided by councillors on October 21.

Group chairman Tim Haskey said: "Our current petition against this revised application is going exceptionally well, with over 250 signatures to date, raised in under two weeks since launch.

"We are closing this down the petition on Sunday, to compile the final count, before it will be handed in to Sandwell Council by our local councillor, Councillor Ann Shackleton, who remains as supportive of our campaign as ever."
