Drivers have also dealt with additional congestion on a daily basis because of buses and coaches blocking the road at Pipers Row during the morning and evening rush hours as they set down and pick up passengers.

The councillor has agreed to be quizzed about anything to do with the city's roads.

The trouble has included work on Princess Street. A section of the road was closed for four months and the scheme has come under heavy criticism, claiming two businesses as casualties.

It has also left motorists face a daily headache as they maneuvere their cars around the streets. But council bosses say the pedestrianisation scheme will make the city's main shopping areas more pedestrian friendly, while also reducing the number of cars driving around the centre.

And there could be more headaches to come with work under way in Berry Street as part of the controversial £1.6 million city centre road shake-up and alternative routes in place.

Drivers trying to access Princess Alley, Princess Street, Wheeler's Fold and the western end of Berry Street will have to go through Market Street and Princess Street for three weeks.
