Wolverhampton Strykers site: Would you pay £1 million for this mess?

Overgrown with weeds and a magnet for fly-tipping - and it could all be yours for a cool £1 million.

This is the site of the former fire-ravaged Strykers bowling alley in Wolverhampton, which is still on the market with its hefty price tag, 18 months after a blaze ripped through it.

In December two years ago 100 firefighters fought the blaze that ripped through the landmark on the corner of Shaw Road and Bushbury Lane, reducing it to a shell following an arson attack just days before Christmas.

Flames and ash filled the night sky with smoke seen from miles around.

The Strykers fire at its height

Bulldozers arrived in January last year and the remains of the building were flattened for safety reasons.

It was initially put on the market for £2m but that was slashed by half last December.

And today James Swash from Michael Tromans, the agents selling the two-acre site, today confirmed the site was still on the market with its £1m price tag.

He said: "We are still marketing it and still getting enquiries for it. We are still asking for the same."

Since the fire the site has become a target for fly-tippers - despite a council tip being just yards away.

Last year Wolverhampton North East MP Emma Reynolds called on the owner to hold talks with the council.

Today she said she hoped the site could be used to create employment.

"I hope that they can do something with it. It would be good if they could developed maybe as an employment site. We can always do with additional jobs.

"I would hope that they can sell it and the site can be developed," Miss Reynolds added.

Strykers was run by Kent-based Garland Leisure Ltd.

It closed suddenly in October 2013 with complaints at the time that customers who had booked functions had lost deposits.

Following its closure it was targeted by metal thieves.

At the height of the blaze, 100 firefighters from across the Black Country and Birmingham fought to bring the fire under control. It was so intense that part of the building collapsed.
