The 54-year-old was driving along Primley Avenue, Alumwell, in his beige Nissan Micra at 2pm on June 21 when a dark green Renault Clio pulled in front of him and blocked the road.

Both drivers got out of their cars and began to argue with one another at which point, a third man - who had not been in either vehicle - appeared and joined in with the argument.

The Micra driver was then assaulted by the other two men resulting in the tendons in his legs being torn, a broken knee cap and bruising.

PC Davina Thorp said: "This was a vicious assault which has left the victim with horrific injuries, meaning he is unlikely to be able to walk for at least the next six months.

"The driver of the Clio is described as white, in his late 20s, around 6ft tall and of slim build. He has short, fair hair and possibly has some facial scarring. A passenger in the car is described as a white woman in her early 20s and around 5ft 8ins tall.

"The third man who joined in is described as black, in his early 20s, around 5ft 9ins tall and of medium build. He had very short hair and was carrying a drawstring bag.

"I am sure local people will know the identity of the pair in the Clio - and possibly the third man - and I would appeal to them to call us with the details."

Anyone who witnessed the assault is also urged to call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
