Teenager who died after being found badly burned at Walsall's Bescot rail depot is named

A teenager who died after being found with serious burns to his body at a Black Country rail depot has been named as Ashley Aaron Matthews.

The 19 year-old from Willenhall has today been described as a "loving son and brother" by his devastated family.

Mr Matthews was found by emergency services at Bescot rail depot, near Westmore Way, Walsall, last Thursday night.

He was taken to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he died in the early hours of the following morning.

British Transport Police has launched an investigation although the circumstances are not believed to be suspicious.

In a statement, issued through BTP, Mr Matthews' family said: "Ashley was a loving son and brother who will be deeply missed by his family, as well as his many friends.

"We wish to express our thanks for all the kind messages we have received since we learned of Ashley's sudden death. We would also like to thank the emergency services and medical staff for their efforts both at the scene and at hospital.

"We would now ask for privacy while we come to terms with what has happened."

Det Chief Insp Mark Cleland said: "We continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding Ashley Matthews' death, but, at this stage, are not treating the incident as suspicious. We will prepare a report for the coroner."

An inquest into Mr Matthews' death was due to be opened and adjourned this afternoon.
