Headteacher Carl Williams has been suspended without prejudice and an investigation launched amid claims a student was allowed to sit an exam the night before his classmates. An acting headteacher has been appointed.

The investigator will now talk to people relevant to the investigation, including the school's leadership team and pupils.

Dr Jim McElligott, Wolverhampton City Council's director for education, said: "Wolverhampton City Council, with the support of the governing board of Moreton School, has appointed a highly-skilled and experienced independent investigator to look into allegations regarding the conduct of examinations at Moreton School.

"The investigator will speak to people deemed relevant to the inquiry, likely to include members of the school's leadership team, pupils and the person or persons who made the original complaint, and their report will be presented to the council and governing board for consideration in due course.

"Both the governing board and the council will fully support the independent investigation into these allegations."
