The Pyle Cock Inn was sold by Marston's last year with a freehold pricetag of £225,000. And Wolverhampton City Council has now approved plans to bring the Rookery Street site back to life as a children's nursery.

It is expected the day care centre will create 25 jobs and have a maximum roll of 80 children.

The Pyle Cock was a traditional Victorian pub dating back to 1860. It closed its doors in mid-January.

The rear section of the building will now be demolished and an extension added, with the number of car park spaces reduced from 41 to 28.
