Trains delayed between Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street after assault on conductor

Trains between Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street were delayed by more than half an hour after a passenger assaulted a conductor.

The assault took place around 3.15pm this afternoon, but the conductor didn't need to go to hospital.

British Transport Police have launched enquiries into the incident, which took place as a train from Wolverhampton to Walsall stopped at Coseley.

Trains were delayed by over half an hour as officers attended the scene.

British Transport Police spokesman Kit Bradshaw said: "We were called to Coseley railway station shortly before 3.15pm, on Thursday, 7 May, following reports that a member of train staff had been assaulted.

"The incident is believed to have occurred on board a Wolverhampton to Walsall train.

"The victim did not require hospital treatment.

"Enquiries are ongoing.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting incident 333 of 07/05/2015."
