Pat Sneap, aged 76, was attacked as she walked home on Walsall Wood Road, close to the Walton Road junction in Aldridge, just before noon on Tuesday.

She needed hospital treatment for minor injuries after hitting her head on the floor and the attack has left her too scared to leave her home.

The thief stole around £350 after he grabbed her bag outside the Lifestyle Shop on the corner of Walton Road and Walsall Wood Road between 11.45am and12.15pm.

Mrs Sneap was returning from a shopping trip and had collected her pension and her husband's when she was attacked from behind.

She tried to put up a fight, but was forced to let go of her bag, as she was swung around and thrown to the floor.

Walsall Police confirmed officers are investigating. The thief is described as a white man, aged 20 to 30 years old and wearing a grey hooded top and grey trousers.

He was seen running towards Walsall Wood with a brown shopper bag, which also contained a number of personal possessions, including a brooch and jewellery box, bought as gifts.

Mrs Sneap's pension books, purse and bank cards were also stolen. The gran of two suffered cuts and bruises to her forehead and knuckles as she was dragged along the road.

She also suffered bruising to her arms and legs and her glasses were smashed.

Niece Kate Massey, aged 27, said: "My aunt is still very upset, in pain and shaken up. She is feeling very vulnerable and scared. She keeps having flashbacks of the guy's face.

"I just can't believe that someone could do this and leave an old lady lying in the road. It could have been a lot worse if a car had been passing. She just had a heart scare through her angina so we are very worried."

She added: "My aunty Pat has lived in the area her whole life. To us she is the heart of our family, she would genuinely do anything for everyone." Call the robbery team at Walsall Police on 101.
