Streetly Academy student Harry-James Kirkham, aged 15, died as a result of his injuries last month. The teenager, from Kingstanding, was crossing Sutton New Road in Birmingham after leaving a church with friends.

His family, including parents Dawn Smith and Craig Kirkham, have now launched a £4,000 appeal towards a memorial. More than £750 has already been raised. They have said: "Thank you for all your support for Harry-James's memorial headstone. We his family are very grateful. Harry-James was taken away too early at 15 years. He was such a giving child he wanted to donate his organs to others, which we have done.

"Sadly we never saved for funeral costs and struggling to find the money, we would love your help."

The officer in the car, an emergency response PC based at Sutton Coldfield police station, was on routine patrol in the area and was not responding to an emergency call for service. The matter has been referred to the Professional Standards Department. To donate go to www.gofundme.com/s8p5dj8
