Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service received nearly ten calls about the incident around 7.25pm this evening.

Black plumes of smoke could be seen coming from the saloon car which was well alight and stationed on the hard shoulder of the northbound carriageway on the M6 between junctions 13 and 14 passing Stafford.

Two crews were dispatched to the scene, one from Penkridge and another from Stafford, and firefighters in breathing apparatus put out the flames at 8.08pm.

Highways England had reopened all lanes of the carriageway within the next half an hour.

There were no reported injuries.
