A total of 22 jobs will be lost at the homes provider, which manages properties on behalf of Wolverhampton City Council, over the next year.

Wolverhampton Homes must make £11.8 million of savings over the next four years of which £2.5m has already been found.

At a full council meeting last night, it was agreed that the amount of money given to Wolverhampton Homes over the next four years would be frozen.

Councillor Peter Bilson, regeneration chief, presented the report detailing the changes.

He said: "This represents an ambitious challenge for Wolverhampton Homes, given we are controlling the amount of money they get to provide the service we ask for.

"The group themselves have identified ways that they will be looking to do this and their previous work in the past means we are confident they can continue to not only provide homes, but work within the community to improve the city."

Chiefs have insisted that frontline services will not be hit by the loss of the 22 jobs.

More than 20 per cent of households in the city are managed by Wolverhampton Homes, which was formed in 2005.
