IN PICTURES: More than 1,000 cannabis plants seized from Smethwick drugs factory

More than 1,000 cannabis plants were seized from an industrial sized factory by police.

Officers on patrol around the Bridge Street North Industrial Estate in Smethwick made the discovery earlier today at around 1.15pm.

Police collected the cannabis plants for forensic investigation.

No arrests have been made and the plants are due to be destroyed.

Spokeswoman for West Midlands Police Deb Edmonds said: "A large scale cannabis factory was found at an industrial estate on Bridge Street North in Smethwick.

"Officers gained access to the property at approximately 1.15pm.

"More than a thousand plants were discovered at the site by officers.

"No arrests have yet been made and the plants are being held for forensic investigation."
