Campaigners have demanded Sandwell Council rethink future cullings of Canada geese.

Representatives from the Save Our Sandwell Canada Geese (SOSCG) urged the council's Health and Neighbourhoods Scrutiny Committee yesterday to recommend the use of non-lethal control in future after more than 4,000 people signed a petition protesting the culls, carried out in parks in West Bromwich in 2013 and 2014.

Sandwell Council carried out the cull due to concerns over the health of visitors to the park, with the main worries being bacteria carried in faeces as well as people slipping on the waste.

The committee's recommendation will be announced in the coming days.
