There were 11 burglaries in 12 days in Wednesfield at the end of January.

Wolverhampton Police launched an operation last week with uniformed and plain-clothes officers carrying out midnight patrols.

Automatic Number Plate Recognition stings were also implemented looking to trap criminals on the move after dark.

Since the clampdown there has been just one reported break-in at a flat in Perry Hall Road on Thursday where offenders fled empty handed.

Wolverhampton Police Superintendent Keith Fraser said: "Our late-night efforts have had an immediate impact by stamping out burglaries – and our patrols teams encountered some known criminals."
