Firefighters from Tettenhall and Codsall were called to the incident in Boscobel Road, off Offoxey Road, in Bishop's Wood, at 1.45pm on Tuesday.

An air ambulance was also called to the scene, but was not needed.

Fire crews helped the male driver, believed to be middle-aged, to escape the hatchback via the boot area.

It is believed he was shaken up by the incident, but was not thought to have suffered any injuries.

He was taken in an ambulance to hospital as a precautionary measure.

Crew commander Dan Cartwright, from Tettenhall fire station, said: "There was one private motor vehicle involved which has overturned in a ditch.

"The man was severely trapped in the vehicle.

"We rescued him through the bot area by making a big access.

"He got out himself and had no major injuries but was shaken up.

"An air ambulance turned up but it wasn't required."
