The deadline for entries is less than five weeks away, so there is still more than enough time to enter and this year there are more categories than ever before, enabling the awards to recognise the widest-possible range of top performing organisations and companies in our area.

And that means every business, large and small, from every sector of commerce and industry, has the potential to win through as a finalist in the West Midland's biggest and best awards event.

At a special luncheon event for the Business Awards' backers, Express & Star Editor Keith Harrison said: "We'll have more entries - and more sponsors – than ever before and I think that illustrates what we all see in our daily lives about the recovery in the Black Country and the strength of the economy in this area."

The awards regularly attract entries from big organisations, but Mr Harrison said: "One of the main aims of the awards is to highlight the area's small firms and the incredible work they do that often slips under the radar.

"The good news is that entries don't close until March 5 so there's still plenty of time to get submissions in.

"This is a great opportunity for the Express & Star to really raise the profile of business in the Black Country and recognise the hard work and achievement of so many people."

He added: "It say's so much about these awards that we have so many high profile supporters all sharing the same common goal – to wave the flag for the Black Country and to celebrate its success."

This year's list of sponsors includes Aspray24, Carvers, EBC Group, Higgs & Sons, Jaguar Land Rover, Ladder For The Black Country, Lloyds Bank, UTC Aerospace, the University of Wolverhampton and Wolverhampton City Council.

As a result of the event's strong support it has been able to expand the entry categories, which this year include Apprentice of the Year, Best Use of Technology, Export Award, Innovation Award and Manufacturing Champion.

And companies can enter up to three categories, giving them an even bigger chance of securing a place on the finalists' short-list at the Business Awards presentation evening at Wolverhampton Racecourse on June 11.

This glittering black-tie dinner now has a reputation as one of the biggest business nights of the year, with tickets selling out weeks in advance.
