Three arrested in dawn raids after series of robberies and burglaries

Three men were this morning arrested after police, supported by firearms officers, conducted dawn raids at two addresses in Oldbury and Walsall.

The homes on Birchfield Lane, Westmead Drive and Borough Crescent in Oldbury and Grove Crescent, Pelsall were searched as part of a pre-planned operation into a series of robberies and burglaries in the local area.

As a result three men aged 22, 24 and 39 were arrested on suspicion of robbery and burglary.

Officers executed the warrants under the theft act at around 5.20am. Searches are currently on-going but no guns have been recovered.

Detective Constable James Ashcroft, from said: "The properties were searched after months of planning and the firearms officers were there to support us as a precautionary measure.

"Our message is clear if you are involved in crime then expect us to visit."

The raids follow a small increase in crime across Sandwell over the past eight months. Between April 2014 and December 2014 officers investigated 14,109 crimes compared to 14,052 over the same period the year before, a rise of 57 offences.
