Nine-year-old Alexander Rukin, son of a leading campaigner against HS2, was appearing in front of the HS2 Hybrid Bill Committee this afternoon, stating his own opposition to the high-speed rail project..

In his petition the youngster , son of Stop HS2 campaign manager Joe Rukin, states that he thinks HS2 is a 'stupid' idea which should not be allowed to happen.

He was also due to point out further problems with HS2 Ltd's assessment on woodlands and with the company's maths.

The schoolboy starred in a video last year informing people how to petition against the £42 billion project.
