Funeral date for former Staffordshire Police chief constable

The funeral of a former chief constable of Staffordshire Police is taking place on Tuesday.

Charles Kelly passed away on New Year's Eve at Katherine House Hospice in Stafford after a battle with cancer. He was aged 84.

His funeral will take place at Lichfield Cathedral at 2pm.

Mr Kelly spent nearly 46 years as a police officer before his retirement in 1996.

He came to Staffordshire as deputy chief constable in 1976 and was subsequently appointed chief constable, a position he held for 20 years.

Mr Kelly also served in the Military Police and the West Riding of Yorkshire and Essex police forces.

He was also president of the Staffordshire St John Ambulance at the time of his death.
