Nightclub will create 60 jobs
More than 60 jobs will be created with the opening of a new 1,600 capacity nightclub in the heart of Birmingham.
The former Oceana club at the corner of Hurst Street and Bromsgrove Street has been transformed after a major revamp.
It has been renamed Electric under the scheme to take up part of the existing nightclub which has been closed for around two years. Oceana shut its doors to revellers alongside its sister club in Wolverhampton after parent company Luminar collapsed into administration.
The group, which operated a total of 75 venues across the UK, suffered amid the financial downturn. Bosses today said the new club opening will create more than 60 jobs at the venue close to Birmingham's Chinatown and Southside district.
These will include management jobs, bar tenders, marketeers, hosts and hostesses, security staff and DJs.
Finishing touches are being made to the venue ready for the launch night.
Electric's general manager, Amo Taib, said: "This is what Birmingham has been waiting for, something powerful and exciting." It will face some competition as legendary Birmingham nightclub Snobs is being relocated close by.
The final night at the current home of Snobs nightclub will take place on September 21 at its long running home on Paradise Circus. Snobs will open in its new £2 million venue in the former Vudu club, on the corner of Smallbrook Queensway and Hurst Street, later this month.
