New plans have been revealed to transform a former police station into a large housing development.

Under the proposals the 10,000sq ft building on Birmingham Road in Wolverhampton would be converted into 28 self-contained apartments. The work would involve extensive internal alterations and an extension at the back of the building.

The properties would consist of 13 single-bedroom and 15 two-bedroom flats, while parking spaces for 18 cars, 2 motorbikes and 16 bicycles would also be provided.

Earlier this year the developer, Mr K Samra, had a similar application to turn the property into 32 apartments turned down by Wolverhampton City Council's planning committee.

On that occasion planning chiefs said the site was an unsuitable location for housing, while Councillor John Rowley likened the proposed development to a custody block.

The station was built in the 1960s and has been empty since 2012 when it was vacated by West Midlands Police.
