The travellers moved onto the public parkland in Fowlers Park, in Park Village, on Wednesday.

The group had agreed with council officers to move from the site by yesterday, but this morning they were still camped on the field.

Paul Brown, a spokesman for Wolverhampton City Council, said: "We had been down to the site on Friday and agreed that they would move by yesterday but they haven't.

"We have been down again with police and they have served a notice that they are to leave the site by midday on Wednesday.

"We will be going down again with the police tomorrow and if they have still not move then they will face further action."

Around 20 caravans pulled on to Fowlers Park in Park Village on Wednesday night.

The caravans, along with dozens of vehicles, were set up on a football pitch.
