There were reports of properties that had been left with no water or low pressure in Streetly, Aldridge, Shire Oak, Brownhills, Clayhanger, Pelsall, Sutton Coldfield and Shelfield.

South Staffordshire Water said it had received the first reports of an issue at around 4.45pm.

The company said water had been restored to all properties by around 8.45pm and work was ongoing to find the source of the problem.

South Staffordshire Water spokeswoman Caroline Cooper said: "Several thousand properties have been affected, although not all at the same time.

"The first problems were reported at about 4.45pm. There were reports of no water and poor pressures.

"We have now restored all supplies and have apologised for any inconvenience caused.

"We are looking at the data to find out what the problem was."

John Morris, of New Road, Brownhills, said he was left with no water from around 6pm.

The 70-year-old said: "We noticed we had no water at about 6pm. The neighbours on the other side of the road also had none. I don't know what's happened and haven't been able to get through to anyone at South Staffs Water."
