Plans for new Wolverhampton youth centre are moved by a metre

Plans for a £6 million youth zone have been re-submitted so it can be built in a different position to avoid underground cables.

The new centre will be built on land off Worcester Street in Wolverhampton city centre on the site of the former Scala cinema.

As well as sports facilities, it will have dedicated space for dance, music, arts and crafts.

But developers realised part of the building needs to be moved by about a metre so the cables are not affected.

The revised application has gone to Wolverhampton City Council. A report with the plans says the facilities and design of the site will not be altered.

It adds: "The amendment to move the building away from the boundaries is minor and the latest design preserves the original concept."

The centre, which will be known as The Way, is being backed by Wolves owner Steve Morgan.

It is due to open in 2015 and will also have an outdoor recreation area, kitchen and cafe area, and a radio booth as well as martial arts and boxing facilities.
