Woman dies in major crash on busy Black Country road

A woman died today and a man was seriously injured in a crash that closed a busy road this afternoon.

Four cars were involved in the collision on Waterfall Lane, Cradley Heath.

A woman in her 80s, from one of the cars, died at the scene. An elderly man was taken to hospital with serious injuries. West Midlands Ambulance Service said six people were involved in the crash. Of the five who were injured, three were walking wounded. All five had been taken hospital.

Two air ambulances and four land ambulances were called to the scene. West Midlands Ambulance Service said

Chief Inspector Neil Hobson said: "A busy thoroughfare has been closed in Cradley; Waterfall Lane is closed at Higgs Field Way and Owens Way ? it is due to be closed until this evening."
