Midas touch to mark Wolves promotion

Most swimming pools tend to be coloured blue.

But with blue being the colour of Wolverhampton Wanderers' biggest rivals West Bromwich Albion, that just wouldn't do for a League One promotion party at the city's Central Baths.

So to mark Kenny Jackett's team's victorious title-winning season, council bosses are dying the pool gold for a special promotion celebration.

The venue will host the pool party on Sunday.

Gold and black beach balls and other paraphernalia will give the pool a distinctly Wolves-based feel.

And official club mascots Wolfie and Wendy will also make an appearance in what is sure to be a celebration to remember.

Peter Connelly, from the council's leisure department, said: "The council is extremely proud of Wolves' achievements this season and we wanted to put on a real family celebration event for people to get involved with.

"We thought it would be really fun to dye the water and put lots of Wolves beach balls in the pool. It will be a great family event over the bank holiday weekend."

The pool party will take place from 8am to 4pm.

Entry is free for all children aged seven and under and holders of under-17 free swimming cards. Otherwise entry is £3.95 for adults and £2.05 for eight to 16 year olds.

Wolves clinched promotion with a 2-0 win against Crewe Alexandra earlier this month.

Since then supporters have been in party mode, with a 6-4 win over Rotherham at Molineux seen by the club's biggest home crowd for three decades.

A second sell-out in a row has been announced for Saturday's end of season game against Carlisle.

Visitors to Central Baths have been warned that parking in the area is likely to be limited due to West Park's Vaisakhi event.

Alternative free parking is available on the Stan Cullis Car Park at Molineux, or paid for parking at Peel Street or Fold Street which are both a 10 minute walk from the baths.

Wolfie and Wendy will be there between 10am and 11.30am.
