Plans have been unveiled to transform a former pub site in a Staffordshire village into a housing development.

The old Royal Oak in Hill Ridware, near Rugeley, will be demolished and replaced by 42 houses if the scheme is approved.

The development includes a mixture of two, three and four-bedroom semi-detached and detached homes. In the plans from CH Froggatt and Sons it states: "In summary the site is situated in close proximity to employment, service and social facilities, with day-to-day facilities available within close proximity which can be reached by bus or cycle."

An exhibition of the plans was staged at Hill Ridware Village Hall in September last year. Concerns raised during the event included worries about traffic, school provision and issues relating to drains. The proposed site, off Uttoxeter Road Hill, is not far from Grade II listed Ridware Hall, Coach House and Stables.

A decision on the plans will be made by Lichfield District Council over the coming months. Around 1,300 homes are being built in Lichfield and surrounding villages before 2020. Three possible sites for residential developments include Cricket Lane, Claypit Lane and a former airfield site in Fradley just outside Lichfield.

A £1.5 million project to make major improvements to a busy gateway into a city in preperation for the new homes has been launched. Workmen have started redesigning the two Wall Islands on the outskirts of Lichfield.
