The RAF Museum and airforce station at Cosford were among those affected by the problem. Visitors to the museum were guided by emergency lights, and bosses said no-one was turned away.

Western Power Distribution say the problem was first reported at 9.50am and that 8,674 homes in the Cosford and Albrighton area had been left without power.

Everywhere apart from the RAF base and museum was switched back on at 10.16am, with the rest restored at 10.53am.

The problem was caused by a fault on an overhead network.
