Randy Santel chews up challenge to eat monster hot dog at Walsall restaurant
It contained 1.5kg of beef sausage, 2lbs of home-made chilli and was topped with Monterey Jack cheese and jalapenos, wrapped in a bread roll.
More than 100 competitors have taken on the metre-long monster hot dog challenge at Smokey's restaurant in Walsall and failed.
But it proved to be no match for American TV star and well-known speed eater Randy Santel, aged 27, who is taking on a range of food challenges on a 44-day tour of the UK.
He had just an hour to eat the monster hot dog, which came with a side of fries and coleslaw, but finished in 46 minutes and 29 seconds.
Dozens of people gathered at the Station Street restaurant to cheer him on as he took on the hot dog challenge yesterday afternoon.
Also taking on the challenge were 38-year-old Steve Forrester, of Well Lane, Blakenall, and Alex Mason, aged 24, of Wythall, but the pair were unsuccessful.
