School run disrupted as travellers force closure of Cheslyn Hay car park

Parents dropping their children off at school today faced major disruption after travellers forced the closure of a car park.

Teachers were forced to send text messages to parents to warn them of disruption as they arrived at Cheslyn Hay Sport and Community High School.

Congestion built up around the school from 8am as parents struggled to find somewhere to park.

Four caravans and a number of vans and cars have been parked up on the school's car park, off Saredon Road, since last Wednesday night.

Plans to move them off the site have so far failed to come to fruition although councillors today said they were still going through the 'due processes'.

But officials were forced to shut the school car park today and sent school coaches to the neighbouring leisure centre car park instead.

Parents were being turned away from using both car parks between 8am and 8.45am.

Mother-of-five Sarah Higgs, of Bentons Lane, Great Wyrley, said: "I've had to come out earlier this morning and I've got an eight-month-old baby. It's completely unfair.

"There's parents with disabled and ill children and it's not too bad this morning but tonight it will be a nightmare."

District councillor David Clifft issued warnings to advise parents of potential disruption today but admitted there were going to be severe problems.
