Celebrity Royston Blythe's home plan is rejected
Planning chiefs have rejected a celebrity hairdresser's proposal to build a four-bedroom house in the grounds next to a stately home.
Royston Blythe, coiffeur to stars such as Katy Perry and Katie Price, had drawn up plans to build a home in the gardens of the Grade II listed Wightwick House, next to Wightwick Manor in Wolverhampton.
But Wolverhampton City Council refused planning permission for the scheme, saying it could potentially have a negative impact on the National Trust-owned Wightwick Manor.
Councillor John Rowley said: "We are dealing with the effect on what is probably the finest building in Wolverhampton. It would be utterly irresponsible of us to agree to pursue this application considering the possible environmental impact on Wightwick Manor and its surrounding area."
Mr Blythe, who owns the early 19th century Wightwick House, wanted to build the home in the area where a swimming pool currently stands.
Twenty-seven representations had been received opposing Mr Blythe's plans, with many stating the development would be out of character for the area.
Mr Blythe, who runs a salon on Bridgnorth Road in Compton and the Dorchester Hotel in London with his partner Nick Malenko, maintained his plans would have no impact on the Manor.
