Two accused over Birmingham jewel raid plot
Two men have been charged after armed police smashed an alleged plot to rob a Birmingham city centre jewellery store in broad daylight.
Dean Beech, 35, and Mark Kirk, 32, were appearing before magistrates today after firearms officers shot the tyres on a stolen vehicle in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter.
Three people were arrested after the dramatic operation, which unfolded in Spencer Street on Thursday at 11.10am.
Police say the Toyota Land Cruiser they shot at had been stolen in a car key burglary from the Warwickshire Police area earlier in the week. Balaclavas and rubber gloves were recovered after police stopped the car.
Beech, from Castle Bromwich, and Kirk, of Castle Vale, both areas of Birmingham, are charged with conspiracy to rob.
The third suspect has been bailed pending further investigations.
