A re-shuffle of the borough's cabinet, which will see the number cut from 10 to eight saving the authority £33,000, was also backed.

The moves were approved at last night's full council meeting, which also saw new Mayor councillor Linda Horton appointed.

Stepping down in the re-shuffle were councillor Ann Jaron, who relinquished the adult social care role to become chairman of the council's audit committee, and councillor Derek

Rowley, who has become chairman of Sandwell's joint consultative committee in charge of employee relations.

The allowances for the cabinet members stay the same as last year.
