The woman, in her 50s, had been jogging through Hurcott Wood, on Hurcott Lane when she fell from the narrow path at around 10.15am yesterday.

Despite her injuries, the woman managed to call a friend for help, however she blacked out before revealing her location after hitting her head.

Her friend then called police who found the jogger thanks largely to the bright pink top she was wearing.

Police, the ambulance service and firefighters from Bewdley and Kidderminster were sent to the scene. Pc Lindsey Atwell and Pc Rich Leek first arrived and spotted the woman not far from the park entrance, lying face down on the ground.

Officers spent around 90 minutes comforting the woman who was drifting in and out of consciousness.

The woman was strapped to a spinal board and fitted with a neck brace as a precaution.

Amid concerns that they might slip as they climbed back up the bank with her, a specialist line rescue team from Hereford and Worcester Fire Service was dispatched to the scene.

The team of seven, arrived just before midday and quickly attached a rescue rope to the board before they were joined by police in carrying the woman back up the hill.

From there she was taken on the back of the team's 4x4 to an ambulance waiting outside the park gate.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Chris Kowalik said the woman had not suffered serious injuries during the fall.

"She was placed in a neck collar and on a spinal board as a precaution before being taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further checks," he said.

"Thankfully she was found not to have any major injuries."
